Joseph Kent-"Gris Gris"-Napa Valley Red Wine-2010

Joseph Kent
"Gris Gris"
Napa Valley Red Wine
2010

$35.00

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 20% Petit Verdot, 10% Merlot. Pronounced smells and flavors of blackberries, black currants, bittersweet chocolate, espresso and a walk in the forest. Medium bodied, softer tannins, long finish of black cherry, dry aged beef and cocoa. It's got a little "umami" thing going on. We suggest you drink this as you would a stronger Merlot. Have with roast rack of lamb and beef stew full of slow-cooked onions and root vegetables.

GRIS-GRIS:  A voodoo amulet originating in Africa which is believed to protect the wearer from evil or brings luck. Joseph Kent owner/winemaker Kent Jarman is from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where the Gris-Gris is often used for bad spirit protection.

April 6, 2016 Newsletter:

2nd time we've featured "Gris Gris" in the newsletter. Owner/winemaker (Joseph) Kent Jarman poured it at last Friday's Blow Out. The wine showed so well, it merits another recommendation. The wine has reached another level of smoothness and deliciousness since January.

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 20% Petit Verdot, 10% Merlot. All Calistoga, Northern Napa Valley fruit. Pronounced smells and flavors of blackberries, black currants, bittersweet chocolate, espresso and a walk in the forest. Full bodied, suave and smooth tannins, long finish of black cherry, dry aged beef and cocoa. In January I called this wine "a little restrained." Now, I find it lush, rich and generous. A surprise as little time has passed, but it takes a moment to turn a corner, you just don't know when until it happens. Have with roast rack of lamb, beef spareribs and grilled bacon burgers.
