Sonoma resident/Napa winemaker Stephane Vivier makes Pinot Noir for Oregon (and Sonoma, too). Beautiful wine…tangy red cherries and berries, cranberries, pink roses, sweet citrus smells and flavors. Quite “Burgundian,” as you’d expect from a man born & raised in Burgundy…and Willamette Valley grapes.
"Connor's Corner," Connor Swanson, Back Room's 1/22/15 Newsletter:
I've only had one bottle of this to date, but I have a sneaking suspicion that is going to change over the next few months. Stephane Vivier is a French winemaker who lives in Sonoma, works in Napa and gets Pinot Noir grapes from Willamette Valley, Oregon. Got all that? Never mind, it hardly matters. The recent release of his eponymous Pinot Noir is what I'm here to tell you about. It's classic Oregon Pinot Noir: Bright red fruits, earthy minerality, balanced acidity and a smooth, delicate finish. For a winemaker who spends much of his time crafting Pinot that sell for over $100 a bottle, this is a slam-dunk, hands down, knockout.
