Truth be told, I have an extremely difficult time with the question, "What is your favorite wine?"
My answer changes almost daily, shifting with the seasons, the menus, the company... you name it. That said, if you were to ask me today, then I choose Domaine de la Pépière's Muscadet "Classique" 2014, $16/bottle
This wine is my current favorite for a number of reasons: first and foremost, it is absolutely delicious. Aromas of lemongrass lead into crisp green apples, juicy cantaloupe, crunchy minerality, bright acidity... everything I could want in a Summer Sipper. Secondly, it is a steal! At $16/bottle, I challenge anyone to show me a better example of a benchmark wine from a classic growing region. Seriously, it can't be done. Lastly, this is a versatile wine that, while tasty now, could probably outlive me and still taste amazing.
Today I want it with oysters and sashimi but in another ten years, this same bottle would be an ideal fit for lobster bisque or Cioppino. And heck, in another 10 years after that, this wine might be ideally suited for an after-dinner cheese board of a steaming pot of Swiss fondue. Again, name me another wine so flexible. Though I typically live bottle to bottle and as I mentioned before, my taste changes constantly, this is a wine that I want by the case(s). Some for now, some for later, but delicious and different each and every time.
All the best, Connor
