New label from Bart & Daphne Araujo. Their inaugural release Sauvignon Blanc "is the product of discriminating fruit sourcing and conscientious, diligent farming. It is powerful, yet with a delicacy and finesse. This wine is given extra time in barrel and bottle prior to release, resulting in an exquisitely balanced wine that is aromatically complex, concentrated in flavor and richly textured – influenced by both Graves and California."
From the winery:
Accendo Cellars is the latest adventure for Bart and Daphne Araujo. The Latin origin of Accendo, meaning “to kindle, to illuminate, to inflame, to arouse”, embodies everything the family strives to accomplish with this new project. They are joined by their daughter, Jaime Araujo Bézian, and son, Greg Araujo, as well as a small team of professionals, whom they have worked with for many years, including winemaker Françoise Peschon, enologist
Michel Rolland and viticulturist Steve Matthiasson. Together, this team produces a style of wine modeled after the famous blends from the mid-20th century Napa Valley where diversity of terroir is harmonized by the winemaker into an outstanding bottle of wine that expresses ecological diveristy and focused stewardship.
The Sauvignon Blanc grapes achieved full ripeness and flavors and were hand-harvested on September 5th. They were brought to the winery for whole cluster pressing into both stainless steel drums and new French oak barrels and fermented with primarily native yeasts. The wine was aged sur lie for seven months with weekly batonnage and bottled on April 30, 2014.
