"Olivia's Block" Calistoga, Napa Valley
Family “Estate” vineyard in Calistoga. (Olivia is the family’s niece and the block of vineyard where these grapes grow.) Shows great varietal character: wild red cherries, raspberries, sweet plums, black tea. A little vanilla toast from the oak. Medium bodied, full of flavor. Only 4 barrels (about 90 cases) made.

With only 4 barrels (about 90 cases) made, you will most likely be the only one to bring this wine to the party (unless your friends are Back Room customers too). Shypoke is the Heitz family's estate vineyard in Calistoga. It dates back to 1904-five generations. The small block of Sangiovese is named for Olivia, the Heitz family’s niece.
Once a rising star grape of Napa, and now scarcely planted around here, Sangiovese can be very good when grown right and made well. You'll enjoy this. Wild red cherries, raspberries, sweet plums and black tea come to mind.
A little vanilla toast from the oak. Expressive nose, medium body, bright acidity, full of flavor. I'm going to brine, grill and braise turkey legs for Thanksgiving. I will keep a bottle of Shypoke Sangiovese near me as I enjoy them. Gobble gobble.
