Santa Barbara County
J.L. is Jenne Lee, who took over Bonaccorsi with the passing of co-founder Michael Bonaccorsi. This is a fine expression of quality Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir with its spicy/herbal/earthy nose, sweet core of black and red cherry fruit, a little black truffle and light frame of toasty oak. Great value for a layered, full-flavored Pinot.
*Got some technical information on this wine from Jenne Lee. If interested:
"The 2011 J.L. Pinot is a blend of mostly Pommard clone from Julia's Vineyard from the Santa Maria Valley and some Melville (115 clone) Cargasacchi (115 clone), and Bentrock (777clone) fruit from Sta. Rita Hills. The pinot from neutral barrels of the 3 Sta. Rita Hills were used to blend with the 60% new French oak (mostly Francois Freres) of Julia's.
The wines were barrel aged for 18 months.
There is no stem inclusion in the fermentation, about 5-7 days cold maceration.
The must was punched down and pumped over for a combination of three times a day.
Once primary fermentation was finished, a few more days before press.
The free run was barreled before putting into the press and kept separately in barrel.
The first racking usually happens in April/May when Secondary is finished.
Then simple maintenance of SO2 and topping without hindering the wine in any way.
A few barrels received another racking if needed."
