32% Syrah, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Petite Sirah, 11% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 7% Mourvedre
By Casey Flat Ranch in Capay Valley. Fruit is 40% from Casey Flat. Rest is Napa, Sonoma, Lake and Mendocino.
Kaleidoscope of berry/cherry fruits (black, blue, red), black pepper and licorice spice, black tea and kirsch, all framed by 30% new French oak. Full bodied. Youthful tannins that soften with decanting. Great value.
Note from Casey Flat Ranch/Open Range winemaker Laura Barrett:
"The 2010 Open Range is a blend of 32% Syrah, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Petite Syrah, 11% Merlot, 7% Mourvedre and 4% Cabernet Franc. It was aged in 30% new oak for 20 months. This vintage is about 40% declassified fruit from CFR - including some Cabernet and Syrah (Alban clone) and the Merlot and Mourvedre components. 40% is Syrah from Mendocino County and Petite Sirah from Lake County. The remaining 20% is Cabernet from Napa Valley and Syrah from Alexander Valley."
