Bucklin
"Old Hill Ranch"
"Ancient Field Blend" Sonoma Valley
2013

$35.00

Great Estate vineyard near Glen Ellen in Sonoma Valley. Vines up to 160 years old! Zin based blend (75ish% Zin). Then Grenache, Petite Sirah, Alicante, Mourvedre & much more. Co-ferment. Full-flavored wine for sure, that said it comes across medium/full bodied and almost "elegant." Nose is a blend of briar patch, liqueur and spicy earth. Christmas and Moroccan spices, berry jam, dried violets, musk, tobacco, espresso. Have with BBQ & Grilled stuff. 548 cases made.

From April 19, 2017 newsletter:
Every vintage, this is one of our favorite under $40 wines on the planet. Introducing the 2013 Bucklin. BINGO!
"Old Hill Ranch" is a grand, storied estate vineyard near the town of Glen Ellen in Sonoma Valley.
The vines reach up to 160 years age. This, Bucklin's signature Old Hill Red, is Zin-based at 75ish%. Grenache, Petite Sirah, Alicante, Mourvedre & other grapes, mostly planted before we were alive, make up the rest. Everything's fermented together: a true field blend.

It's a full-flavored wine for sure, that said it comes across medium/full bodied and almost "elegant." (Brings to mind a note I read somewhere: "Wines from old vines are like people. As they get on in years, the power starts to fade, but they get more complex and interesting.") Nose is a blend of briar patch, liqueur and spicy earth. Christmas and Moroccan spices, berry jam, dried violets, musk, tobacco, espresso. Have with BBQ & Grilled stuff. 548 cases made.
