From September 10, 2015 Newsletter:
Great Estate vineyard near Glen Ellen in Sonoma Valley. Oldest vineyard in Sonoma Valley, and of the oldest in California. Most of the vines were planted in 1885 - 127 years old at harvest.

This is a true field blend: Bring all the grapes, of which 70-75% is Zinfandel, in from the vineyard together, and turn them into wine. The other 25-30% is Grenache, Petite Sirah, Alicante, Mourvedre & more.

"Old Hill," long a Ravenswood Winery vineyard designate, is owned by the Bucklin Family, and since 2000 they have sold half the grapes to Ravenswood and kept half to make their own wines.

This is the powerhouse red I mentioned in the opening. Nose is a blend of briar patch, liqueur and earth. Taste blackberry jam, Christmas and Moroccan spices, musk, tobacco, espresso, black olive. Like the Birichino, there is a little Rhone-thing going on here, but in bolder, broader-shouldered style. Have with full-flavred BBQ & Grilled meats.  732 cases made.
