Jakob Schneider-Riesling-Niederhauser "Hermannshohle" Auslese, Nahe-2012

Jakob Schneider
Niederhauser "Hermannshohle" Auslese, Nahe

The vineyard has grown Riesling for over 400 years. Basalt, grey slate and clay in the 30-45 degree, southeast facing vineyard. Jolt of acid and honey on entry. In the mouth it’s rich and seductive and still reasonably trim (it’s shirt tails are tucked in). 147 G/L R.S., 12.4 G/L acidity. Astronomic levels on both.

“It’s a very BIG wine, with 147 g/l of R.S. and 12.4 g/l acidity and naturally it acts as much like a mini-BA or Eiswein as it does like an Auslese—whatever that creature is any more. But it is undeniably profound, monumental and grandiose.” Terry Thiese
