FROSTWATCH Chardonnay, Bennett Valley, Sonoma
2006
Bennett Valley is tucked away, a little south of Santa Rosa, and off Sonoma Valley. Can get a little colder in this microclimate, thus the origin of the name "Frostwatch." Co-Owner Brett Raven has been Cellar Master at Ramey Wine Cellars for a few years. The style and quality are similar to Ramey. The Frostwatch Chardonnay is full-bodied and rich with a healthy, balancing acidity. This makes for a big, balanced, toasty, bright, strong Chardonnay. Taste sweet butter, toasted brioche, peaches, nectarines, roast hazelnuts. 180 cases made.
$25/bottle $8/glass
WINE BAR SPECIAL: 20% OFF CASE PURCHASE OF FROSTWATCH DURING THE MONTH OF JUNE!
LEVIATHAN Red Wine, California 2005
This is the “kitchen sink blend” by artisan Napa producer Favia-Erickson. From awesome vineyards in Napa & California, from which they make their single vineyard wines.
Blend: 41% Cab Sauv, 32% Merlot, 21% Syrah, 7% Cab Franc. We just finished up a roast rack of lamb dinner (Dijon/Rosemary marinade) with eggplant caponata. Good eats, and a heck of a wine to match. The Leviathan: very ripe berries, low acid, big on pie spice, mocha and caramel flavors. Finish is very soft with sweet cherry jam, toasty oak and Mexican chocolate flavors. What’s a leviathan you ask? It’s a sea creature in the bible. Fully described in the Book of Job.
$48/bottle $16/glass
